We follow the government’s code of practice on consultation, which you can find on the right hand side of this page on the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and aim to respond to all consultations within three months of the consultation ending.

Background

In the March 2009 Budget statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a review of ECGD. An outcome was that the government decided to have a public consultation on ECGD’s business principles and ancillary policies as a result of the review.

Purpose of the consultation

The purpose of the consultation is to get views from interested parties on proposals to revise ECGD’s statement of business principles which have been in place since 2000 and have become outdated. The government is also proposing that ECGD should adopt a policy of applying international agreements on bribery, environment and sustainable lending, and not additionally and separately create and operate its own policies. There are also proposals on ECGD’s procedures for carrying out anti-bribery due diligence where it reinsures another export credit agency which is a member of the Office for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The government is also proposing that ECGD should adopt the government’s code of practice on consultation.
